چکیده

We investigate collapse of a spherical cloud of counter-rotating particles. An explicit solution is given using an elliptic integral. If the speci c angular momentum L(r) = O(r) at r! 0, no central singularity occurs. With L(r) like that, there is a nite region around the center that bounces. On the other hand, if the order of L(r) is higher than that, a central singularity occurs. In marginally bound collapse with L(r) = 4F (r), a naked singularity occurs, where F (r) is the Misner-Sharp mass. The solution for this case is expressed by elementary functions. For 4 < L=F <1 at r ! 0, there is a nite region around the center that bounces and a naked singularity occurs. For 0 L=F < 4 at r ! 0, there is no such region. The results suggests that rotation may play a crucial role on the nal fate of collapse.

On the global visibility of singularity in quasi-spherical collapse

We analyze here the issue of local versus the global visibility of a singularity that forms in gravitational collapse of a dust cloud, which has important implications for the weak and strong versions of the cosmic censorship hypothesis. We find conditions as to when a singularity will be only locally naked, rather than being globally visible, thus preseving the weak censorship hypothesis. The ...

Naked singularities in Tolman–Bondi–de Sitter collapse

We study the formation of central naked singularities in spherical dust collapse with a cosmological constant. We find that the central curvature singularity is locally naked, Tipler strong, and generic, in the sense that it forms from a non-zero-measure set of regular initial data. We also find that the Weyl and Ricci curvature scalars diverge at the singularity, with the former dominating ove...

The Nature of Central Singularity in Spherical Dust Collapse

We examine here the nature of the central singularity forming in the spherically symmetric collapse of a dust cloud and it is shown that this is always a strong curvature singularity where gravitational tidal forces diverge powerfully. An important consequence is that the nature of the naked singularity forming in the dust collapse turns out to be stable against the perturbations in the initial...

A naturalness argument for covered and naked singularities in gravitational collapse

We give a naturalness argument to show that both covered and naked singularities should occur generically in spherical gravitational collapse in classical general relativity, subject to the assumption of the dominant energy condition. An outstanding open problem in classical general relativity and relativistic astrophysics is to determine the final fate of the continual gravitational collapse o...

Null Geodesic Expansion in Spherical Gravitational Collapse

We derive an expression for the expansion of outgoing null geodesics in spherical dust collapse and compute the limiting value of the expansion in the approach to singularity formation. An analogous expression is derived for the spherical collapse of a general form of matter. We argue on the basis of these results that the covered as well as the naked singularity solutions arising in spherical ...
